Match the edition to the display
A detailed movie poster is not a measurement of video quality. HD, 1080p and 4K describe different picture resolutions; the actual edition, viewing service, plan and device determine which choices appear. Look at that service’s quality information after opening the title.
Why sharpness can change
Some players adjust quality as the connection changes. Allow the picture a moment to settle before assuming it is permanently soft. Heavy downloads on the same network, weak wireless reception and a low data setting can all affect the result. Lowering quality temporarily may restore steadier playback.
Older television deserves the right shape
A classic 4:3 episode should not be stretched across a widescreen display. Side bars can preserve its intended composition. Likewise, the grain in an older film is not always compression damage. Use the original aspect ratio and compare the actual picture before applying aggressive sharpening.
